History
On Christmas Day 1157, King Malcolm IV granted the lands of
Innes and Nether Urquhart to Berowald the Fleming. Berowald's
descendants became the clan Innes and owned Orton from that
day until William Duff, later first Earl of Fife, bought the
estate. Orton Estate has remained in his family ever since.
Orton is not a town, or even a village, but a community which
includes Orton Estate.
Location
The Estate lies in Scotland's Grampian Region, in the County
of Moray. It is beside the River Spey, at the point where it
passes From the mountains to the coastal plain, before joining
the Moray Firth. Set away from urban development, it offers
the peace and tranquility that you would would expect of the
Scottish countryside. |
