some of which we have listed below. If your particular interest
is not included in the list let us know, and we can arrange a package
to suit your requirements. As well as sporting activities there
are attractions for all the family from visits to local visitor
centres, wild life walks, and being located in the heart of whisky
country, all the famous distilleries are easily accessible. If bringing
back souvenirs and gifts, remember that the malt whisky's in Moray

Whisky Tours
- Speyside is truly the world centre of whisky production. Whether
your taste is for the Malt or the blend, the source of your favourite
tipple is probably not more than a few miles from here! You might
like to experience a tour around the nearby Strathisla Distillery,
and then enjoy a whisky tasting session there. What better way could
there be to learn how to differentiate between whisky's?

Perhaps you would rather explore the home of Glenlivet, or Glenfiddich,
or Glenfarclas, or Glen Grant, or Macallan - the list goes on. All
this can be arranged for you.

| Walking/Mountain
Biking - The quiet farm and riverside trails at Orton are
an ideal method of getting away from it all for as long or as short
a time as you like. For the more energetic, the surrounding area offers
plenty of varied walks, and you can either make your own way or we
can arrange for you to join a group with an experienced guide. Hillwalkers
can take ancient drove tracks into the northern Cairngorms, climb
to the summit of Ben Avon or cross the Ladder Hills between Dufftown
and Tomintoul. The Speyside Way, one of Scotland's designated long-distance
footpaths, follows the course of the River Spey from Ballindalloch
to Spey Bay, right past Orton (although on the other side of the river).

Get close to Nature ...

Forestry Enterprise maps of local forests detailing designated walks
are on display in all properties.
It uses forest tracks and part of the former railway line, with spurs
leading through Glen Livet to Tomintoul and by Glen Fiddich to Dufftown.
Moray's forests welcome walkers, with extensive networks of footpaths
in Culbin, Roseisle and Speymouth Forests, and Glenlivet Estate too
has lots of marked walks with maps to guide you.

Touring
- This part of Scotland is the ideal base for touring. Travelling
from ancient castle to whisky distillery to craft centre, you will
drive through some of the most spectacular and romantic scenery of
it's kind in the world. A typical day trip might include an expedition
"over the sea to Skye", with time to have a look for the
Loch Ness monster on the way, perhaps taking in a visit to historic
Culloden battlefield on the way back to Orton. Alternatively you might
like to be taken round some of the historic castles in the area, or
some of the 50 whisky distilleries that are within a short distance
of Orton. |
We can provide these expeditions, but if you prefer to be independent,
we can provide you with detailed directions and itinerary, giving
you the flexibility to vary your route if you wish.
